Aggressive Defense

With the U.S. government releasing statements alleging meddling by Russia in the upcoming presidential elections, the threat of increased online conflict between the nations continues to grow.

In response and anticipation, Shelly Palmer, writing for Sys-Con media, offers some advice on how individuals can plan to protect themselves in the event of a Cyber World War. Pointing out potential data doomsday scenarios such as massive attacks on banking systems, wholesale destruction of patient health records, or direct attacks on civilian computers, Palmer offers recommendations as to establishing proper offline backups of key personal information and files to external hard drives, printing key financial or medical documents for physical records, and preparing alternate methods of communications to allow for contact when wired and wireless connections may be unavailable. As Palmer notes, while most companies have some form of disaster recovery plan in place, it’s important for individuals to maintain their own plans, too.
