Looking to provide both workers and first responders with the information they need to be safe in the event of a radiation-related accident or intentional incident, OSHA has updated their website to add a new section on Radiation Emergency Preparedness and Response. Intended primarily for those who may be involved in the initial emergency response, the website contains six sections:
- Background, providing details on the types of emergencies related to radiation, including potential health effects and tools for hazard assessment
- General Businesses, offering information on how businesses can protect their employees in the event of a radiation related emergency
- Preparedness, containing details for emergency response employees, focusing on planning, training, and the use of proper equipment
- Response, including a breakdown of the steps to be taken by an emergency response employee during and after a radiation related event
- OSHA Resources, containing a list of associated OHSA standards for related industries
- Additional Resources, containing references to other public and private sector documentation and standards
