A Time for Renewal: With spring arriving, it might be time for your company to perform a cleanup of your site and security practices

Why not consider making spring-cleaning a regular part of your cybersecurity calendar? Neil Feather, CIO for Sitelock recommends doing just that, by using the changing of the season as an excuse to do a full review of your company’s website and security policies, to ensure everything is fresh and up to date, and there’s nothing left lingering around that you’d rather not expose or share.

Feather suggests a two-part approach, beginning with the website, and then continuing through the cybersecurity protocols. For the website, the emphasis should be on performing a review to get rid of any unnecessary software, followed by ensuring necessary ones are fully updates. Similarly, any data acquired through the website should be reviewed to determine whether it can be deleted, to reduce the risk of important information being leaked in the event of a hack. Finally, regular scans should be set up so as to best identify any attacks or problems as early as possible.

For the overall cybersecurity practices, a similar cleaning should be done, taking a look at tools in use, and what plans are in place in to reduce the risk of a cyberattack. Employee training should be checked, to ensure it is in line with the tools and policies. Password protocols should also be reviewed, to prevent easily guessed ones from being used.

By making this a regular event in the calendar year, you should be able to help improve your company’s cybersecurity preparedness.
