A Revision of Recommendations

The Department of Health & Human Services’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness & Response (ASPR) has sent out a draft of its 2017 Health Care Preparedness and Response Capabilities, seeking feedback from interested parties. Offering an update on the 2012 guidelines, the document provides details on:

  • Establishing a foundation for health care and medical readiness;
  • Healthcare and medical response and recovery coordination;
  • Continuity of health care service delivery; and
  • Timely and efficient care during a medical surge.

As the ASPR is the administrator of the sole source of federal funding with respect to the improvement of patient outcomes, the minimization of the need for supplemental state and federal resources during emergencies, and the enabling of rapid recovery, through its Hospital Preparedness Program, these guidelines will be of significance to those attempting to interact with this program.
