A Nation Prepared

Looking to expand the nation’s resilience at the local level, on September 27th, the White House announced new measures intended to assist communities in disaster recovery. Discussing potential threats including natural disasters, terrorism, technological matters, and climate change, these proposals are intended to address issues raised in the 2016 National Preparedness Report. These new federal measures include, but are not limited to:

  • FEMA’s announcement of the award of $1.5M in training funds for economic recovery and resilience initiatives;
  • The announcement of the Leaders in Business Community Resilience initiative, working to encourage local partnerships between the private and public sector;
  • The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s release of a toolkit focused on assisting homeless populations before, during, and after disasters; and
  • The Department of Homeland Security’s establishment of a group of trained infrastructure recovery and resilience subject matter experts, to be made available to assist communities struck by disaster.
