A Lack of Concern: Many cybersecurity threats are driven by indifference, rather than technical matters

Again and again, it’s been shown the easiest way to get into a network is through people. While an IT department can do what they can to ensure they’ve got the most robust cybersecurity defenses possible, it doesn’t much help if a user can be easily convinced to give up critical information. A big part of this is when those users think that cybersecurity is outside of their control, or not their responsibility, and so respond to all things cybersecurity with indifference, according to an article in Security Brief.

This indifference can easily be seen as a justifiable reaction too, as people are bombarded with news about endless major hacks, streams of new vulnerabilities, and the overall perception that you can do everything right, and still have your data stolen.

To help address this, the industry is seeing a slow shift toward human-centric cybersecurity (HCCS), which seeks to better engage individuals in the process, to understand the reasons and causes for this perceived indifference, and to develop processes and procedures which take this indifference into mind.
