A Helping Hand

As lines for necessities grow longer post Hurricane Michael, it’s important to remember it’s not only government agencies that are preparing to step in to help residents. For those looking to donate time or money, Lifehacker offers a quick roundup of some of the groups looking to aid those who might have been displaced, or are otherwise in need of aid, after Hurricane Michael. Covering a wide range of beliefs and goals, the list of organizations includes:

  • The Florida Disaster Relief Fund, which is Florida’s official private fund for helping communities in disaster recovery
  • Samaritan’s Purse, consisting of a network of non-denominational evangelical Christian churches, and currently run by Franklin Graham.
  • Team Rubicon, a group of military veterans who assist in rescue efforts after disasters, and who are currently already active in the recovery efforts for Hurricane Florence
  • Direct Relief, which states a willingness to provide aid to anyone in needed without consideration of “regard to politics, religion, ethnic identities or ability to pay.”
  • Global Giving, which supports local efforts to restore areas hit by natural disaster, and balancing short terms needs with long term rebuilding.

The local police department is also collecting donations for people in need, according to WearTV.
