The dark web is no doubt a scary place – known for all manner of illegal and offensive activities. But it also plays an increasing role in cybercrime, writes Etay Maor, Senior Director, Security Strategy for Cato Networks, in a piece for Forbes.
“Today, the dark web is a multi-billion dollar underground marketplace where cyber cartels, ransomware groups, hacktivists and nation-state threat actors are actively operating, growing and reinventing themselves,” writes Maor.
There is an opportunity here though, Maor explains, to study threat actors and improve cybersecurity defenses.
Maor’s recommendations include:
- Adopt a cybersecurity system rather than siloed products.
- Harness human threat intelligence.
- Train the workforce.
