A Change of Employment: COVID-19 has redesigned the way many workforces interact with their employers

As the EMEA region enters their second lockdown, and areas in North America continue to see regional shutdowns in response to the spread of COVID-19, organizations remain under constant pressure to adapt their operations in a rapidly changing environment. To that measure, companies are finding themselves needing to rebuild their understanding of what needs to be done to maintain business continuity, according to an article in Information Age.

Flexibility is key among these proposed changes, as the uncertainty about the locations from where work may be performed, and the type of work that is needed, remains. Similarly, while many organizations were able to shift quickly to a work from home policy, IT teams need to continue to revisit the tools available for remote work to ensure their effectiveness and security, while HR and other departments work to ensure remote employees receive the necessary support to maintain their own effectiveness and health. With the shift in structure, organizations also need to reexamine the skill sets their employees need, and to identify critical skill gaps exposed by the new environment, and ensure plans are in place to properly fill those gaps.

With the initial response being over, and organizations now settling in for the long haul, establishing a robust business continuity plan will reward those willing to put in the effort.
